hollie velten was born and raised in california. her dad started out as a photographer and her mom had amazing personal style. at a young age, she found boxes of family photographs and her mother's vintage clothing- she knew fashion would be a part of her life from then on.
she studied modern dance and ballet in college and got into some costume design. she also designs the wardrobe for her boyfriend, matthew nourse's, films. after moving about from sacramento, santa barbara, tahoe, brooklyn, and san diego, she now calls los angeles her home. her line is based in the fille showroom in the cooper building.
she loves the art and craft of jewelry making and is interested in seeking non-traditional materials and finding alternative or utiltarian ways of wearing her jewelry.
her newly launched spring 07 clothing line is primarily based on the personal style of her mother, archived in the hundreds of found photographs her father took. she calls her mom "her muse," and credits a mix of childhood memories, film of the 60's and 70s, and dance history as constant inspiration.
her work has been seen all over major publications such as wwd, apparel news, nylon, elle, and angeleno magazine and is a new celebrity-favorite. her line was quickly snatched up by boutiques like fred segal and madison. she was recently nominated as one of gen art's 2006 fresh faces in fashion.
